I've been grinding my teeth about this one as well. I've noticed that if I open a file from the File menu rather than double clicking it in the Files column on the right, that it opens immediately.

Try that and see if it works for you, too.

THANK YOU!
I've been using Dreamweaver since 1997 and there's never been a "feature" as annoying as this one.
Well, actually there is the problem with Dreamweaver not saving passwords from session to session, but they fixed that with an upgrade (to 8.02, if you're interested). But this one caused me a loss of maybe 10min a day -- which is valuable to me.
So Thanks, Tim, for the solution. You're my hero for the day (or at least 10 min of it)

Tim, thank for for posting this solution. I have been searching for months. It was particularly annoying when doing a shutdown.

I was having this problem at work as well, and was googling for an answer when I found your page. After poking around in Dreamweaver's preferences I found this solution.

Go to Edit ->Preferences and select Site from the left menu. There is a field called FTP transfer options: Select default action in dialogs after [] seconds.
Unchecking the box didn't change anything, but the # of seconds was set to 30. Change it to 0. Now it switches between sites smooth and quickly - I don't even see the 'File Activity Complete' bar.

I have no idea what practical purpose this setting could serve. I hope this works for you as well.

I've been using UltraEdit quite a bit now for a couple months at least, it's great. The FTP features aren't exactly like Dreamweavers, so it took some getting used to, but it actually works great for coding and ftp'ing and I never feel worried about it hanging. I'd recommend it if you are still unsatisfied with your current setup.

CuteFTP is great too! I haven't used it for a couple years but I really like that one.
