Lately I’ve begun work on developing a portfolio of web sites that solely exist to make money from either affiliate advertising or PPC advertising.
My adventures have been interesting and I’ve learned a lot.
The most important thing that I have learned to date is the importance of keyword research. Keyword research and PPC research is completely essential if a person is trying to make money on the web in this manner.
Well… here’s one for you…
My first adventure into affiliate advertising consisted of making a web site that is geared toward vintage baseball jerseys. I got this idea because I had been on a kick of buying baseball jerseys on ebay. I like baseball in general and think baseball jerseys are cool. I had even written an article about the ground rules of wearing “other teams” jerseys… hey I can’t have a wardrobe filled with jerseys only from my favorite team!
I realized that I could use the ebay affiliate program and target baseball jerseys, of which there are many on ebay!
So… I took it one step further and went for keywords involving vintage baseball jerseys.
Well, I cranked out a site over a weekend, and then started to do some research. Once I found some tools that allowed me to analyze keywords properly, I realized that the vintage baseball jersey market isn’t exactly a hot market to make money on the internet. I’m going to leave the site up cause who knows what might happen though. But I’ve already moved on to creating some other great content based sites that are targeted at specific niche keywords that are proven money makers.
I’ve been able to do this because I finally understood and embraced the value of keyword research.
If you don’t do research on the keywords you’d like to target, you could potentially be wasting a TON of time if you are looking to profit from PPC and affiliate advertising on the web.
I learned the hard way, but not really since I feel I figured it out pretty quickly. Either way I hope my experience might help out even a couple individuals out there who are in the same boat.
