Smart computer use? Maybe, maybe not.

A UPS… Uninterruptible Power Supply

Not sure how I ran across that page at geeks.com, but I’m glad I did because it reminded me of how nice it would be to have one.

Not the delivery guys

I was thinking about getting one of those things, an uninterruptible power supply, or UPS for short.

Think of all the times that the power has gone out or flashed in your office or home. I’ve had a few situations myself where the power has flashed and caused a computer to restart at a bad time.

Safety from power failures for your computer

The UPS would give you instant protection from power flashes that would cause your computer to lose power just shortly enough to restart. That would be a very nice feature. It’s still good to save work often but a power flash and a random computer restart sucks either way.

Also, if the power goes down for good, a power-outage victim is at least given time to properly shut down the computer.

Now I just gotta find something that isn’t too expensive. I’d imagine that a person could spend a good amount of cash on a UPS for a computer if able. I’m expecting that I should be able to find something that gives me enough uninterruptible power to at least just be able to shut down my computer safely to ride out the power outage in silence.

Cost

A $100 or less? I would think so.

I checked it out quickly and found that I could get a servicable computer UPS from eBay for between $50-$100. At least this is for a UPS designed for a personal computer, small setup. It’s easy to find larger, industrial size UPS devices for many hundreds of dollars more.

  1. UPS systems are becoming more and more affordable for people to run in there own homes. With future power shortages being predicted also homes and businesses are taking power protection much more seriously. We product even further growth in the UK UPS market for the next 3 years at least.
